Ten c is one of the most quietly revered names in Italian outerwear, and as of this month it has a home at Ragazzi. Founded in 2010 by two designers who cut their teeth on some of Italy's most famous technical labels, Ten c makes jackets with no visible logos, no seasonal gimmicks and no interest in chasing trends. What you get instead is obsessive fabric engineering, garment dyeing done in Italy, and pieces built to be worn for a decade rather than a season. If you have never heard of it, that is rather the point. Here is everything worth knowing before you buy.

Who is Ten c?

Ten c was founded in 2010 by Alessandro Pungetti and Paul Harvey, two designers who spent years shaping the world of Italian technical outerwear at labels like C.P. Company and Stone Island before starting something of their own. Harvey later stepped away and Pungetti carried the brand forward, but the founding idea never changed: make garments so well built that you keep them for life.

The name is the giveaway. Ten c is short for The Emperor's New Clothes, the Hans Christian Andersen tale about people too worried about status to admit the emperor is wearing nothing at all. It is a deliberate dig at logo-led fashion, and a statement of intent. Ten C wants the garment to do the talking, not the branding.

Everything is made in Italy, in small runs, with a level of finishing you rarely see at any price. This is not a brand chasing scale. It is a brand chasing the perfect jacket.

What is OJJ, and why does everyone talk about the fabric?

OJJ stands for Original Japanese Jersey, and it is the material Ten C was built around. It is a dense nylon and polyester jersey engineered in Japan, then cut, sewn and garment dyed in Italy, right down to the threads and trims. That double-dyeing process is what gives Ten C its remarkable depth of colour.

The clever part is how it behaves. OJJ starts firm, a little like raw denim, then softens and moulds to your body the more you wear it, developing a patina that is entirely your own. It even reacts to the weather, softening in humidity and firming up when dry. No two Ten C jackets age the same way, because yours ages around you.

It is worth knowing the fabric weight changes with the season and the piece. The Skye Ten Anorak, for example, combines OJJ 11oz with a nylon crinkle rip stop, while heavier winter parkas move up to 12oz. You can read Ten C's own breakdown of the fabric on their official OJJ page.

Why does Ten C have no logos?

Because the whole brand is a rejection of them. You will not find a big badge on the chest or a patch on the sleeve announcing what you are wearing. Ten C is designed to be recognised by people who already know it, through its silhouettes, its fabric and its finish.

That makes it a very different proposition to the outerwear brands built on a visible logo. Ten C is for the buyer who wants the craftsmanship without advertising the price tag. Many pieces are also built around interchangeable shells and liners, so you are buying into a system you can layer and adapt, not just a single jacket. It is understatement as a design philosophy, and once it clicks, it is hard to go back.

Who is Ten C for?

Ten C is for the man who has already owned the loud stuff and wants something quieter and better made. If you value how a garment is built over how loudly it announces itself, this is your brand.

It suits the investment buyer, the person who would rather own one jacket for ten years than three for one. And it will land instantly with anyone who came up through the world of Massimo Osti and Italian technical outerwear, but has grown tired of the badges. If you want a logo doing the work for you, Ten C is not it. If you want the real thing, it very much is.

Frequently asked questions

Is Ten C worth the money?

If you wear it, yes. Ten C sits at the top end of technical menswear, and the cost reflects a fabric engineered in Japan and garment dyed in Italy through a slow, expensive process. These are pieces built to be worn hard and kept for years, so the value is in the wear, not the initial ticket. You are buying one exceptional garment rather than several disposable ones.

Is Ten C like Stone Island or C.P. Company?

There is shared DNA. Ten C's founders came from exactly that world, so you will recognise the same obsession with fabric innovation and garment dyeing. The difference is the branding. Where those labels are known in part for their badges, Ten C removes them entirely, which appeals to someone who wants the craftsmanship without the logo.

Where is Ten C made?

In Italy. The signature OJJ fabric is engineered in Japan, then cut, sewn and garment dyed in Italy, combining Japanese textile innovation with Italian craftsmanship.

How do you care for a Ten C jacket?

Gently, and not too often. OJJ is designed to age well, so light signs of wear are part of the character rather than a problem. Always follow the care label on your specific garment, wash sparingly with a mild detergent, and reproof outerwear occasionally to keep its water resistance. Looked after properly, a Ten C piece will outlast almost everything else in your wardrobe.

How does Ten C fit?

Ten C outerwear generally has a considered, contemporary fit with room to layer, in keeping with its military-inspired roots. As these are investment pieces, we would always recommend checking the measurements on the individual product page, and getting in touch if you would like sizing guidance before you buy.
