Who is A-Cold-Wall*?

A-Cold-Wall* was founded in 2015 by Samuel Ross, a graphic designer from London who had spent time working alongside Virgil Abloh at Off-White. Ross grew up on a council estate in south London, and that experience sits at the heart of everything the brand produces. The name itself is a nod to the cold, impenetrable walls of social division in British life, the barriers that separate opportunity from aspiration.

Ross studied graphic design and illustration at De Montfort University in Leicester before building his creative profile through experimental film, street art and an early streetwear label. He caught Abloh's attention on Instagram, went on to collaborate on projects including Off-White and Yeezy, and then launched A-Cold-Wall* independently in 2015, self-funded, with no industry backing.

The brand was named British Emerging Menswear Designer at the Fashion Awards in 2018, was shortlisted for the LVMH Prize, and built collaborations with Nike, Oakley and Hiroshi Fujiwara's fragment design. It has been stocked at Harvey Nichols and Barneys New York, and is carried internationally by some huge retailers. It is not a brand with casual retail

What does A-Cold-Wall* make?

The brand sits at the point where premium streetwear meets conceptual design. Think of restrained palettes, blacks, greys, earthy tones, with precise construction and considered detailing. Asymmetric silhouettes, industrial fabrics, and garments that look quiet until you get close and realise how much is going on.

A-Cold-Wall* has described its output as "armour for the now", clothing as a protective layer between the wearer and the world. That sounds abstract, but it translates into pieces that feel purposeful rather than decorative. The graphic tees aren't just blanks with a logo dropped on; the sweatshirts aren't afterthoughts. Everything has a design rationale behind it.

The current edit at Ragazzi includes graphic tees, long sleeve tops, a long sleeve polo, a sweatshirt and hats. It's a strong introduction to the brand. It's the kind of range that lets you get into it properly without committing to outerwear at first.

Why is A-Cold-Wall* so hard to find at independent retailers?

The brand has always been deliberate about where it's stocked. In its early years it was available in just a handful of retailers globally. That kind of controlled distribution is a choice, not a limitation. Brands that protect their stockist list do it to protect how and where the product is experienced.

For an independent retailer in the UK to carry A-Cold-Wall* alongside the other brands we stock, it's a signal of the direction Ragazzi is moving. We're building a buy that reflects what our customers are genuinely wearing, not just what's easy to get hold of. A-Cold-Wall* isn't easy to get hold of. That's partly why it's worth getting hold of.

Who is A-Cold-Wall* for?

It's for the customer who's moved past logo-chasing and wants something with more going on. The person who already knows their brands, is paying attention to what's actually happening in British design, and wants to wear something that reflects that.

A-Cold-Wall* sits comfortably alongside the other labels we carry. It's not a departure from the Ragazzi model, it's a natural extension of it. If you're wearing Ten C, C.P. Company or Carhartt WIP, this will make sense in your wardrobe. If you're buying premium streetwear for the first time and want something that won't date, this is a strong place to start.

Frequently asked questions

Is A-Cold-Wall* a luxury brand?

It sits in the premium streetwear space rather than traditional luxury — no heritage house, no haute couture — but the price points, stockist list and design ambition place it firmly in the upper tier of contemporary menswear. It's stocked alongside names like Off-White and Raf Simons at the retailers that carry it. The quality reflects the positioning.
