The Gant Brand Label

The Gant Clothing brand was the inspiration of Ukraine immigrant Bernard Gant. Partnering with his cousin in 1941, he entered the clothing industry as a shirt manufacter working on subcontract, selling to upscale private labels like Brooks Brothers. Each shirt had a signature "G" sewn into the corner, an assurance of quality for the purchaser. The quality could be felt each time the shirt was worn. The Gants started their business in New Haven and were proud of their American heritage.

By 1949, Gant expanded the business with his own label, and revolutionized the industry with cutting edge shirt designs. He gave men all over the world a fresh new look with the button down shirt.

Recognized as the second largest shirt maker in the world by 1960, the Gant brand and style was well developed. Leisure style comfortable clothing was in demand, and the Gants had found their niche. In 1967 they sold the brand name.

Gant produces clothing for men, women, and children. The men's line includes sporty, bright knit sweaters, and stylish yet commercial sports shirts. Superior value belts and accessories like wool hats and jackets offer elegance on a budget. High-quality pants, shorts, and classy casuals round out the clothing line up.
